Boulder high onto the base of the Pea Brain for the start of the route.

The first bolt isn't immediately visible, so don't panic as you eyeball the second.

Work your way up easy shelves to the first bolt.  Continue through bolts 2 and 3 on the somewhat crispy face.  The crux is getting to 4, with cool moves past it up and onto the dike.  Two more spaced bolts can be found as you move through easier terrain.

There is only one established (2017) 5.14 trad route in all of Joshua Tree per Miramontes extensive (3000+ routes) guide and it is located on Pea Brain: Dihedron (5.14a**), established by Randy Leavitt in 1997.

below an obvious crack. Climb the crack to its end, then angle up and left to a ledge.

(the water groove/chimney) at a shallow groove that leads up the face. Make difficult moves to enter the groove, then up easier face climbing to the obvious horizontal crack and a ledge to the left (toward the gully).

Before rappel anchors were installed atop the Pea Brain, this was the historic descent route for the formation (most people rappelled the lower portion from slings around a jammed boulder). The line makes an OK ascent route for geriatrics.

Start at the height of land in the rocky canyon between Pea Brain and Fat Freddy's Cat. There's a boulder leaning against the base of the Pea Brain face, directly under a water runnel that leads to a gully. This is the start of the route.

Climb the short water runnel (crux) to a couple jammed boulders and a small oak. Climb the gully above, using a hand crack in the back of the gully and stemming to reach the top.

at an obvious right arching crack.

Pitch 1: Climb up an easy slab to reach the right arching crack. Follow the crack up and right to a belay near an arête (5.9+).

Pitch 2: Follow the crack right around the corner then up and right to the top of the formation (5.7+; V1).

Variation 1: Instead of doing the 2nd pitch, climb the face above the P1 belay to the top (5.6+).

This is a good quality face climb, with four bolts.

This route climbs the face on the right-hand side of the gully of

. Start just right of the oak that is midway up the gully, atop a boulder.

Climb straight up the featured face above the boulder to a terrace (V1).

Variation 1: By moving out right from the boulder and then up, the route is about 5.6.

at a pine tree. Climb the face above the pine, passing the juncture of two cracks. Continue up the flaky face above to the top.
